How to Decorate
Your Fireplace for Spring
Now that the
holidays have come and gone, it is time to
consider decorating your fireplace and mantel
for spring.
Below are some decorating ideas for spring
and Easter:
A quick and simple idea is to place daffodils in
either one large crystal or glass vase and on
the mantel in the center or using tow vases on
either end of the mantel herald the coming of
spring. You can tie a soft pastel colored bow
around each vase for a finishing touch. For
summer consider using a larger vase filled with
gladiolus placed on the hearth to add color and
bring summer inside your home.
Another idea is to use a line of fluffy chicks,
or bunny rabbits to decorate your mantel. By
using several chicks or bunnies, which are
either stuffed toys, fine porcelain, or
collector's items they will make a wonderful
spring display. My mother would use stuff
animals, which she received as Easter gifts as a
child to decorate her mantel. She'd also place
Easter grass on the mantel. Today, I've carried
on her tradition, but have added pastel gingham
bows to accent the spring display.
A friend of mine decorates her mantel with
antique candleholders made from Depression
glass, crystal, milk glass, and pastel glass.
They all are of various heights, but take on a
gorgeous look when she fills most of the
candleholders with springtime colored candles
like lavender, pink, pale green, and soft
yellow. The remaining
candleholders she sets decorated Easter eggs.
Another idea is to use a fireplace candelabrum
accented with egg shaped candles, or pastel
candles. When my children were small, the Easter
Bunny would replace several of the candles with
Easter eggs, or chocolate bunnies------perhaps
they aren't too old for the Easter Bunny to
return this year.
